Ormocer
Prior to the reopening of the Grünes Gewölbe, several years were spent collaborating with the Fraunhofer Institute ISC in Würzburg to develop a special bonding agent for the preservation of these works of art. Enamel-Ormocer®, a material similar to glass, made it possible to successfully secure the endangered enamelling. Unfortunately, the manufacturing process for this material is extremely expensive, which is why we are working with the Fraunhofer ISC to develop more cost-effective and environmentally friendly alternatives. This research is very important, as the products currently on the market do not fulfil the necessary requirements for conservation and restoration. An object restored using Ormocer® can be seen in the wall display case on the window side of the Raum der Königlichen Pretiosen (Room of Royal Precious Objects). It is a winged dragon only 6.5 cm high. The coloured enamelling on the cabinet pieces of the Golden Coffee Set and the Throne of the Great Mogul with its miniature figures, created by the Dinglinger brothers, were also saved from further deterioration using Ormocer®. They are on display in the Dinglinger Saal (Dinglinger Hall).
There is a separate information sheet on enamelling techniques: Insights - Enamel.
