Restoration/Conservation
Conservation, on the other hand, attempts to maintain the integrity of an object in its current state using suitable measures. The focus is primarily on stabilizing the historical substance. The aim is to stop or slow down the deterioration of the material by means of low-invasive interventions as far as possible. All existing components are secured in place. In contrast to restoration, no additions are made. In preventive conservation, environmental influences are adjusted in such a way that the natural decay processes of the materials are slowed down. This includes the control and regulation of temperature, humidity, and light. In addition, as far as possible, the objects should be stored free of harmful substances.
